Guide to Canadian Undergraduate Medical Education
Healthy Pictou County is very excited to share our “Guide to Canadian Undergraduate Medical Education” - a helpful tool for those considering medicine. As you’ll see, it also offers guidance to parents/guardians looking to support a learner in their life.
This exciting project was led by our summer student, Georgia Murray in 2024 who pooled the extensive resources, and meant to be a one stop spot to have an overview, learn about pathways, timelines, where to go for help and even some insights from local Pictou County students.
Guide includes:
- Pathways for getting into medical school
- Considerations for educational training
- How to support someone applying to medical school
- Timeline
- Canadian Medical Schools
- The Medical College Admissions Test (MCAT)
- The CASPer Test
- Dalhousie Medical School application streams
- Cape Breton Medical Campus
- Multiple Mini Interviews (MMI)
- You're in! Now what?
- Residency
- Pathways for Internationally trained doctors
- Barriers to success identified by med students
- Med student's advice for supporting mental wellness
- Resources
