One of the best ways to get to know a community and people is to share your time and talents by giving back.

Pictou County is known for being incredibly philanthropic – with our time, energy, and monetary contributions – we’re no stranger to a solid fundraiser and doing our best to look after one another, and give what we can.

There are many ways in which you can get involved in the community like entering a team in a fundraising event, volunteering at an event, joining a board or donating to a particular cause.

Looking to get involved and share some time?
There are endless opportunities in Pictou County with our annual events, service clubs, our churches and community centres, opportunities to serve vulnerable populations and help those in need, mentor a child, share your sporting, musical or artistic talents, or being an advocate or an ally for underrepresented  populations.

Wouldn’t it be nice if there was a list of local non-profits? Well, good news, there is!
In 2018, The Pictou Advocate compiled a list of community organizations, which you can find an interactive map of non-profits and other organizations throughout the entire county, along with contact information: pictouadvocate.com/2019/12/18/giving/

 Just how big of an impact does the local non-profit sector make in Pictou County?
In 2019, the Pictou County Chamber of Commerce released the results of a unique study, showing the significant economic and social contributions made by the non-profit sector in the county.

The study, which included interviews with 44 local organizations, showed those organizations had total annual operating budgets of nearly $50 million, employed nearly 900 full time and part time persons, with an total annual payroll of just over $31 million while engaging  1,500 community volunteers annually. The organizations interviewed raise over $3 million, roughly $70 per resident in the County.
